Keep It Together Girl!
Keep Your House Organized
I know the days are filled with extra activities that you do not have at other times of the year. It’s cold outside for many of us. Inclement weather can mean extra clutter on a regular basis with added outer wear. It can seem impossible to keep your house together! The mere thought of having unexpected company dropping by has you closing your shades, locking your doors, and running for cover! No need for that, my friends. You CAN keep your house organized and ready to receive company at all times with a few simple tips.
Use those blankets that seem to always be scattered about as accent pieces to your living room, the simple way. Instead of trying to keep them folded or neatly draped across the back of your sofas whenever they aren’t in use, train your children to drape them over the furniture in a casual way. You can throw an accent pillow on top and in an instant, those blankets look like a part of your décor! Place small rugs in mud or wet zones. Years ago homes were built with entry ways or mud rooms to allow for the storage and drying of these items. But more recent homes for some reason have done away with these useful little centers. You can “create” a room of your own by designating a rug by an entry way to place all of those extra boots and shoes. This not only keeps these from being scattered about, but it will help keep the mess in one central area, meaning less time cleaning up after all that wet mess on a regular basis. Designate a basket or box for collecting stuff at the end of each day. Just before you serve each meal, place the basket in middle of the room that people enter first in your home. Set a timer for 5 minutes and have your children do a quick round-up of any and all items that are out and about. Place the basket in a corner or inconspicuous while you are having your meal. Directly after the meal set the timer for 5 minutes during which time you and the children will quickly return all items in the basket to their proper place. The rule is, that the basket must be completely emptied during that 5 minute “put away” period after each meal.
These are my thoughts.
